Google Checkout is Now Shut Down: Best Alternative Payment Processors for Your Web Forms

Google Checkout discontinued

Since May 2013, Google announced the retiring of Checkout, its native payment gateway used by thousands of merchants around the world. Now the day has come. As of today, November 20, 2013, Google Checkout is permanently discontinued. This means you will no longer be able to accept Google Checkout payments through your 123ContactForm powered purchase order forms or donation forms. All Google Checkout-intermediated transactions are shut down today.

If you are among the many business owners who have been processing payments with Google Checkout, you may be asking yourself “now what?”. While the decision to discontinue Checkout pertains entirely to Google, we would hate it if any disruption to your business would occur. This is why with 123ContactForm you can just make a smooth transition to a competitive payment processor on the market, at your choice. Here are the best lightweight alternatives we can recommend.

Google themselves recommend and endorse them as certified partners. Former Google Checkout users benefit from lifetime discounted rates when signing up for Braintree, as you can see on their website. Braintree is a great option for accepting payments right on the form you embed on your website, without redirecting users to a remote payment page. Also, Braintree is mobile optimized and comes with a handful of other useful features – read our Braintree payments article to learn more about our integration.

If you are an US merchant, Stripe can suit you well. Its advantages over Google Checkout are that it enables you to accept payments with no merchant account and, as with Braintree, keeps your customers on the form while performing the transaction. Stripe is extremely easy to set up and use on your forms. Just read our Stripe post to learn how to enable this processor on your 123ContactForm web forms.

 … and more

Beside the two platforms mentioned above, 123ContactForm also integrates with other payment processors around the world. PayPal Standard, PayPal Advanced, PayPal Pro, PayFast and others are available for your web forms (see our complete payment integrations here).

Should you need any assistance in choosing the payment integration or enabling it on your web forms, just drop a line to our support team who is always happy to help.
