Position Description:                      

Position Title: OCAF Gallery Director

Classification: Paid / Part-time (20 Hours per Week)

Reports To: OCAF Executive Director & Executive Board

Reporting to Gallery Director: OCAF Volunteer Gallery Committee, OCAF Volunteers, Jury or Juror


To plan, develop and implement art gallery exhibitions and sales in the OCAF facilities and other appropriate venues which serve to highlight the local, regional and national artists’ community. The OCAF Gallery Director will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality artwork for the galleries.


  • Recruit artists, juror (when necessary), curate artwork and oversee curated exhibits by others for OCAF galleries, and maintain an excellent quality of work in all mediums for exhibition by coordinating with the OCAF Gallery Committee
  • Arrange for hanging of all exhibits in galleries. Arrange for opening reception, and coordinate a food committee.
  • Coordinate materials for the exhibition to include title blocks, artist bio and statements, programs, postcards, and other related print materials.
  • Develop and implement marketing through print, email and social media outlets in cooperation with the OCAF Staff for each exhibition.
  • Develop a volunteer roster & schedule to assist with gallery hangings, artwork delivery and receptions.
  • Develop a 12-month calendar of exhibitions and special activities, and a 12-month budget (FY Jul 1 - Jun 30) with a surplus, and submit to the Executive Director for Executive Board approval.
  • Seek sponsorships and in-kind donations to help offset some exhibition related expenses.
  • Maximize art sales through the gallery & display cases, satellite installations.
  • Coordinate at least three (3) no-fee educational events per year to be held during gallery exhibitions such as gallery talks, demonstration relating to the exhibition, etc.
  • Coordinate a minimum of six (6) on-site visits per year by schools, civic clubs, senior centers or similar.
  • Expand OCAF offerings by taking a minimum of three (3) exhibits per year out to community venues (library, government buildings, local businesses, etc.).
  • Develop blockbuster exhibits to draw attention from entire Southeast area.
  • Investigate traveling exhibits offered by others that can be shown at OCAF.
  • In cooperation with the Executive Director of OCAF help develop and maintain a positive, public relations image of OCAF and the OCAF Visual Arts program.
  • Other duties as directed by Executive Director.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience developing and implementing gallery exhibitions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communiction skills.
  • Experience in leadership roles.
  • The ability to work independently and manage tasks from start to finish but also the desire to work as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook or similar. Graphic design experience is a plus.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm and an overall positive attitude.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility concerning work schedule to accommodate evening and weekend meetings and events.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
