Perspectives: Georgia Pottery Invitational is an annual invitational survey exhibition and sale of Georgia Pottery, held late August through mid September each year in Watkinsville, Georgia by the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF).

Who is Eligible?

All Georgia potters are welcome to submit images and résumés, which are very helpful in familiarizing the potter selection team with new work. Please note that a submission of materials is not the same as entering a juried show where an application is accepted or rejected on a specific timeline. Any materials submitted will be kept on file to be considered for inclusion in future shows. Materials may be submitted at anytime or updated at anytime; however, potters wishing to be considered for the show the following year must send their portfolio prior to August 1 of the current year when work begins on assembling the show for the following year.

1. The potter must have been actively producing pottery in the state of Georgia for a minimum of 12 months prior to being considered for participation in future shows.

2. Full time students and interns are not eligible.

3. The potter should have a record of producing functional and/or decorative pottery on a consistent basis for the past 3 years and with stated plans to continue producing pottery for the foreseeable future.

4. The potter must have demonstrated in past 3 years the ability and capacity to produce a relatively consistent quality and quantity of pots, so as to ensure supplying sufficient inventory for the sale. This may require restocking inventory during the period of the sale. The average inventory per potter in previous sales was in excess of 90 pots. Potters agreeing to participate are expected to give appropriate priority in producing quality and quantity inventory for this annual show

5. If the potter is producing other types of artwork, the production of pottery must be their primary output.

6. The potter should be a private studio potter, a member in a public or private pottery studio or a member of a pottery cooperative. Educators with ongoing contracts are also eligible.

7. The pottery produced by the candidate should be of sufficient design and construction quality for the items to sell to the general public without difficulty.

8. Pottery produced by the candidate should meet or exceed the minimum industry safety, design and construction standards as practiced by recognized professional potters working in the state and participating in this show

9. Partners or families who collaborate in producing a single line of pottery are permitted to submit a single application, résumé, and set of images for consideration as a team. Partners or family members who make dissimilar work are required to submit separate applications, résumés and images for individual consideration.

10. IMAGE PREPARATION: Prepare your 12 images as required before beginning the submission process. Submissions are preferably accepted via the online process. Mailed submissions will also be accepted.

11. Prepare your résumé before beginning the submission process. Keep your résumé as brief as possible and as current as possible.

Select 12 digital images that show a variety of sizes and types of your current work. Digital images must meet the following specifications:

  • 8 bit JPEG files (Non-JPG files will not be accepted)
  • The longest dimension not to exceed 1280 pixels in width or height
  • Minimum resolution of 72 ppi
  • The maximum file size is 5,000 KB or 4.88 MB

If you fit the ground rules listed herein and you are prepared to submit your application, please continue to the next page to see the instructions for applying; we look forward to seeing your pottery.
