The Past, Present and Future of Healthcare

How much has Healthcare evolved?

Whether you work in the industry or not, you have surely noticed that the world of healthcare has changed impressively over the last few decades. But what has changed the most, how are things today, and what does the future look like?

Lessons from the past

The patient should be at the center of the healthcare system should always and not the other way around, where instead of implementing patient-centered solutions, the system is complicating and worsening an already challenging situation for the patient.

Going back a few years, there was definitely a lack of a patient-centric approach in healthcare, not to mention the challenges of a paper-based system, too many bureaucratic tasks, the lack of investment in prevention, security incidents, and the list can go on.

Over the years, patient care, patient safety, privacy, and data security have changed for the better and to this day, in many aspects, things continue to evolve in the healthcare world.

The present

Mainly thanks to the continuous technological progress in the industry, healthcare has transformed significantly in the past few years.

A lot of things nobody would have thought possible a few years back are now practicable and they’re actually saving lives.

Evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients from a distance is nowadays possible thanks to telemedicine.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was developed in 1996 with the intention to protect patients’ privacy as much as possible.

Thus, nowadays, collecting, storing, and managing patient data while achieving HIPAA compliance is of great significance within the healthcare industry. That is precisely why various solutions to manage data collection processes faster and in a more secure way had to be implemented.

Electronic medical records allow physicians to access records online and store them securely in order to give their patients access to their personal health records as well.

Medical research is another rapidly evolving field and even though many aspects such as prevention and treatment development have been highly improved through research over the years, there will always be room for improvement.

What does the future hold?

So one thing is certain. The healthcare industry is changing and evolving at an extremely fast pace right now. Exciting times are ahead, whether we’re talking about more technological changes such as advances in the medical research field, mobile, wearable technologies, and robotics or processing and analyzing healthcare data improvements.

What future changes do you expect to see in the healthcare industry?
