Why do I receive the options that were not selected in the multiple choice field?

By default, the submission email contains all the options from the multiple choice field, with a Yes or a No next to them, according to whether or not they have been selected by the user. You would expect only the options that have been selected to show up, right?

Let us explain what’s happening. In choice fields like radio buttons or dropdown lists only one option can be selected, so the value of that field becomes the selected option.

But in multiple choice fields, multiple options can be selected. Hence, each option is listed, with a positive or negative value next to it.

However, you can change settings and receive only the options that have been selected. In order to enable this, go to SettingsNotificationsForm Owner OptionsOther Options and tick the box Do not show unselected checkboxes in the email notification. Keep in mind that this only works for the default email template.

If you want to set the options that were selected on the same line in the default email notification template, tick the sub-option Include all selected checkboxes on the same line in the submitted email.

    As explained in the documentation, you can only use this feature for the default template, not a custom template. If you’d like, you can suggest the feature you are looking for by completing our suggest feature form, located in the feature requests section.
