Plant Maintenance Supervisor 

General Definition

Coordinate and direct maintenance work for the plant in addition to performing preventive maintenance, trouble-shooting problems and repairing electrical, mechanical and industrial equipment as needed to ensure safe and efficient production of quality plastic products. 

Essential Duties

  • Direct, evaluate and ensure all departmental personnel are performing plant maintenance assignments and are aware of and comply with Company policies and standards. 
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of training and development programs for departmental personnel. 
  • Maintain and perform preventive maintenance on most electrical, mechanical and industrial equipment. 
  • Trouble-shoot and analyze problems on equipment (i. e. control panels, air compressors, oven, air conditioning unit’s etc.). 
  • Perform repairs on most electrical, mechanical and industrial equipment from pneumatic impact guns to programmable controllers and microprocessors. 
  • Prepare and assist with reports to keep Management informed of departmental activities. 
  • Prepare and maintain all necessary documentation (i. e. requisitions for equipment, etc.) for department. 

Non-Essential Duties

  • Build and/or remodel equipment for other departments. 
  • Assist with maintenance work on other equipment and vehicles. 
  • Answer questions and provide support for other departments in a cooperative manner. 
  • Perform other related duties as required. 
  • There may be times when a temporary work assignment is required to meet the requirements of the department.  Work assignments will be made at the discretion of Management. 

Knowledge, Skills,  Abilities and Education

Knowledge of basic electronics in maintaining various types of electrical, industrial and mechanical equipment. (i.e. PLC programming, AC/DC motor controls, hand tools, air tools, etc.), various phases of maintenance work (i.e. plumbing, welding, heating and air conditioning etc.) and understanding blueprints and schematics is necessary.  Must be able to make objective judgements, analyze problems to determine the best and most efficient methods of solving the problem while achieving the desired results and work under limited supervision.    A high school diploma or GED equivalent and 3 to 5 years of medium to heavy industrial maintenance (i. e welding, plumbing 480 volt electrical systems, heating and air conditioning repairing programmable controllers and microprocessors, etc.) is required.   An Associate of Applied Science Degree in Elect-Mechanical Maintenance is a plus.  A degree of manual skills (i.e. using various tools such a wrenches, hammers and drills for repairs) and a moderate degree of physical effort is needed.  This position frequently lifts or moves material weighing between 25lbs. and 55 lbs. in difficult work positions. 

Working Conditions

Fair to somewhat undesirable working conditions.  May be exposed to noise, heat, dust, grease, vapors and other elements to the point of being undesirable but not continuously. 

Authority

This person reports to the Plant Manager and oversees the work effort of 1-2 maintenance personnel.
