Whether you’re the eye behind the lens or the subject of a photo used to promote a product, service or idea, one thing you should definitely keep within your easy reach is the Photo Release Form.
I’m talking about a simple form that grants a photographer, a publisher or an agency the permission to use someone’s image for print or digital photography. Not relying on verbal consent but making sure you have the proof of the agreement at hand will prove to be valuable in case the people you photographed subsequently change their mind. Better safe than sorry!
As noted above, this type of form is rather simple. Whether we’re talking about individuals or companies, the first components of the Photo Release Form are usually the names and contact details of the people giving permission( if needed, even the names and contact details of the people receiving permission).
Any other relevant details about the images can also be included. Maybe you want the form to stipulate the types of images to be taken or the ways in which the images may be used.
* In order to make sure that you keep the form short and simple without leaving out important clauses, you can set up a photo release agreement and through a statement, add its link to the form. As you can see in the example below, before submitting the form, the respondents need to click the box to confirm that they have read and they accept the photo release agreement.
You can choose to set the field as mandatory.
If you see fit, you can also add a Date field to the form.
And last but not the least, the form should include a Signature field.
You may also want to add a Print button on the form so that it’s easier to also get it in paper form if necessary.
These exact components that a standard Photo Release Form usually includes, you’ll find in the Photo Release Form template on our website for easy access. It doesn’t get any easier than this. You can use it as it is or tweak it according to your needs by dragging and dropping more fields or removing the ones you don’t want to use.
Once you’re done tweaking and branding it, you can add it on your own website or use it to develop your portfolio. Whatever your choice, take full advantage of the opportunities and benefits of using this form and shoot away!
